Hey everyone… This is part 1 of a 3 part high resolution Photoshop brush set that I’m working on this week. It’s all part of a little experiment… How many brushes could I spot on the way to my mailbox. And of course, I was immediately drawn to what the sidewalk had to offer. So hense forth from this day on this series shall be called “The Sidewalk Series”.

Volume 1 of this series features 6 high resolution sidewalk cracks.

Album Cover Design in Progress for The Jeremy Miller Band

I recently began work on an album cover design for The Jeremy Miller Band. These guys have been great to work with. The album is in progress now, and is planned for a November release date. Keith Davis is producing and they’re recording at Yellow Dog Studios here is Austin.

Below are some initial concepts for the cover design. I’ll share the progress as we nail down these concepts, and develop the graphics for the album insert over the next few weeks. You can catch The Jeremy Miller Band every Wednesday at Waterloo Icehouse at Slaughter and I35, I haven’t been out there yet, but from what I’ve heard… It’s a fun show!

Free Texture Pack :: Steel Textures

How I love textures… let me count thy ways. Textures are a great addition to any designers bag of tricks.There are a ton of free texture on the web to download and use. But whenever possible, I always like to photograph my own. It gets me to thinking a little bit about the world around me, and what I can use in my designs.

I took these photos of slightly rusted steel while meeting on site with a client. This is most likely the first of many free textures that I’ll pass along. Enjoy, and have fun!

Album Cover Design in Progress for Astronaut Academy

For the past couple of weeks I’ve been working on album cover designs for an Austin, Tx band called Astronaut Academy. The band is currently in LA recording their first album with Marck Paladino (producer, janes addiction, fleetwood mac). Below are my two most recent submissions… More to come on this as of yet uncompleted project! Stay tuned.

Logo Design Completed for Austin, Tx Band Pissant Farmers

I’ve now completed my first project as part of my discounted graphic design services for Austin, Tx musicians! This logo is for a great Austin band called Pissant Farmers. I love the concept and potential branding aspects for this band’s name. It was a great experience exploring the options, and collaborating with these guys.

Pissant Farmers have a great sound, and the album is a ton of fun wrapped into one free download.

Grinder Sparks: A Free High Res Photoshop Brush Set

I have to admit that I’m addicted to Photoshop brushes. You never know when there’s a great brush right in front of you waiting to be created. I built this set from some photos I took of sparks flying from a hand grinder. This is a great set of 8 high resolution brushes for adding sparks or splatter to your art.

Graphic Design Services for Austin, Texas Musicians

It occurred to me a couple of weeks ago, that I’m missing out on a huge graphic design opportunity right in my own back yard. I was thinking about how much fun I’d had laying out a CD insert and disk art a few years back for a band called December in Tulsa, Ok. There’s just something about helping build an image or brand for a band, and their music or album. It just gets me excited from a design perspective.

I suddenly realized “Hey, why not offer my freelance graphic design services at a discounted rate to any Austin musicians”… So simple, why didn’t I think of it before?

So I’ve set out with a little advertising, and we’ll see what happens. Hopefully I’ll have some great designs, and some great Austin, Texas music to share right here in the coming weeks.
