There is an old tree in our back yard that is huge, and crawling with great textures. I’ve used photos of this tree in at least 3 different projects. I’m lucky to have such a great design resource living and growing right in the back yard. So I thought I’d snap a few photos of bark textures to share with all of you. I got a little carried away with the amount of photos I took, but I narrowed it down to the top 3.
The Sidewalk Series of Photoshop brushes started as a challenge to myself to see how many brushes I could find on the way to my mailbox. I was immediately drawn to all the cracks, stains, and spots on the sidewalk and in the street. This is volume 2 of the series titled “Oil Stains”. They are just that, 10 high resolution grungy concrete stains.
Curly swirls are used a lot in vector illustrations. They’re very trendy when it comes to floral pattens and abstract designs. They are fun to draw and they look great. I like to create swirls that are chunky, and slightly off balance to give them sort of a hand drawn feel. Follow the instructions below to learn how to create what I call the “Chunky Swirl”.
Photoshop is like an old friend that you’ve known for years, and that you see everyday… and suddenly you learn something new about that friend that’s been there all along, and you can’t believe you didn’t see it before. Recently I discovered the Delete All Hidden Layers feature in Photoshop. It’s probably been there since version 1, and I just never paid attention.
Lately, I’ve been drawing and painting a bit more. I’m trying to get back to my artistic roots. I find that it makes me think about my digital art and designs in a completely different way. And I like that. This is a set of 8 high resolution Photoshop brushes of hand drawn floral designs that I made with a quill pen and india ink. I scanned them, vectorized them, then brought them into Photoshop to create the brushes.
Fortunately, Hurricane Ike missed Austin by a few miles this weekend, but all the clouds left behind did create a beautiful sunset or two. I grabbed the camera to capture a few of these clouds. After viewing them on the computer, I thought that they made some interesting textures, so I thought I would share these high resolution cloud textures with all of you…
Hey everyone… This is part 1 of a 3 part high resolution Photoshop brush set that I’m working on this week. It’s all part of a little experiment… How many brushes could I spot on the way to my mailbox. And of course, I was immediately drawn to what the sidewalk had to offer. So hense forth from this day on this series shall be called “The Sidewalk Series”.
